About the event

On February 19, 2025, the Department of Foreign Languages of RUDN institute of medicine is hosting an intra-university online round table dedicated to the concept and works of Prepaphaelite Brotherhood painters.

Participants: students of RUDN University institute of medicine and teaching staff of the Department of foreign languages (RUDN University Institute of Medicine).

The key topic of the event is to inform the participants about the emergence and development of the Pre-Raphaelite brotherhood, the main principles of their work, the influence of this movement on art in general; ensuring broadening the horizons and raising the cultural level of students.

The event is aimed at developing foreign language speech skills, the ability to present material in English and formation of language skills necessary for successful interpersonal, professional and intercultural communication.

Event objectives

  1. familiarizing students with the direction of Pre-Raphaelitism and the struggle of representatives of this direction against the conventions of the Victorian era, academic traditions and blind imitation of classical models.
  2. raising awareness of the influence of the Pre-Raphaelites on world culture and the significance of their heritage.

The event will be conducted in English with the aim of promoting multilingualism and intercultural interaction.

The practical significance of the event lies in the formation of a humanitarian outlook, development of sociocultural and sociolinguistic competencies necessary for successful intercultural communication.

During the discussion, the participants will touch upon the following issues:

  1. the emergence, development and collapse of the Pre-Raphaelite brotherhood;
  2. worldview and lifestyle of the brotherhood members;
  3. the influence of Pre-Raphaelitism on the painting of the first half of the twentieth century.

Participants will have the opportunity to develop their intercultural communication skills, as well as deepen their knowledge of various art trends in European and world civilization to broaden their horizons and improve the level of general culture.
