About the event

The International conference “Linguistic and Cultural Diversity: History and Modernity” will be held on April 23-24, 2023 at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences of Peoples' Friendship University of Russia named after Patrice Lumumba.

On 23.04.2024 at 10:30 a.m. the international conference “Linguistic and Cultural Diversity: History and Modernity” will be held at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences of Peoples' Friendship University of Russia named after Patrice Lumumba. The international conference arranged for teachers of foreign languages will contribute to improving the quality of learning foreign languages and cultures in accordance with the new requirements for education in Social Sciences and Humanities. Globalization brings about the necessity of changing methods of foreign languages learning, rethinking global values, methodological basis and the results of linguistic education.

The conference “Linguistic and Cultural Diversity: History and Modernity” is addressed to a wide range of experts in the field of teaching foreign languages, linguistics and related spheres.

We offer our colleagues (theoretical researchers, educational practitioners, methodologists and young scientists) a modern platform for fruitful scientific discussion on issues related to foreign language teaching in a professional and multicultural context.

In the course of the conference the following events are scheduled: the Plenary Session, "Methods of teaching foreign languages in a multilingual environment", "Theory of language and literature", "Arabic language and literature", "Chinese kaleidoscope: dialogue of languages and cultures", "Spanish mosaic: dialogue of languages and cultures", "Combining language and professional training for students of non-language universities".

MASTER CLASSES

• “Spanish Grammar. Practical lesson with first year students (A2 level)” (by Associate Professor A.A. Basmanova, Moscow, RUDN).
• “Scenic Translation” (by A.Y. Megrish, Senior Lecturer, Moscow, RUDN).
• “New forms of teaching a foreign language: from lectures to MOOCs” (by Candidate of Historical Sciences, Associate Professor Medvedev Y.S., Moscow, RUDN).
• “Activities of the Chinese Club OF RUDN as a linguistic and sociocultural approach in teaching foreign languages” (by  Candidate of Historical Sciences, Associate Professor Lyulina A.G., Chairman of the Chinese Language Club Poplavskaya V.O., Moscow, RUDN).

The concept of the conference is based on conducting a constructive dialogue within the multilingual space, the interaction of different pedagogical schools and directions, the use of interdisciplinary approaches, allowing to open new prospects for the search and analysis of current scientific trends in accordance with the new requirements for humanities education.

Today it is necessary not only to change the methods of teaching foreign languages, but also a global rethinking of the values, the methodological basis of the entire process and results of linguistic education. Therefore, it is necessary to form a professional dialogue within the framework of multilingualism to improve the quality of foreign language teaching, develop academic cooperation in education, expand and strengthen the practice of research experience exchange and interuniversity interaction.

The conference will contribute to improving the quality of teaching foreign languages and cultures in accordance with the new requirements for humanities education. Globalization requires not only a change in foreign language teaching methods, but also a global rethinking of values, the methodological basis of the entire process and results of linguistic education.

The purpose of the conference is to discuss fundamental approaches, ideas and perspectives in foreign language learning with regard to cultural discourse, to present the results of the research, scientific-methodological and practical work in the field of foreign language learning carried out in the departments of foreign languages of the RUDN and other leading universities in Russia and abroad, to improve the quality of teaching languages and cultures in accordance with the new challenges posed to education in social sciences and humanities.

The objectives of the conference are the following:

• to discuss the realities and opportunities for the dialogue of cultures in the modern world;
• to discuss methods of teaching languages and cultures in the context of the Bologna process;
• to analyze modern methods and technologies in teaching foreign languages and cultures;
• to underline the major trends of ESP teaching in the context of globalization;
• to consider the main methodological issues of students’ phonetic, lexical and grammatical skills development.

During the conference, it is planned to discuss:

• special features of teaching foreign languages to the students of social sciences humanities;
• the peculiarities of intercultural communication in the context of globalization, the interaction of languages and cultures in the modern world;
• inter-linguistic contacts: historical and cultural, ethnolinguistic, sociolinguistic, etc;
• educational technologies and methods of foreign language learning at the beginner’s stage;
• methods of teaching second foreign language to international students;
• problems and prospects of informatization in foreign language learning;
• additional education (in foreign languages);
• the role of language internships in language learning; 

The conference has become a significant event where foreign language learners and teachers from the leading universities throughout the world get together to present their projects and share their knowledge.

CONFERENCE REGISTRATION

Forms of participation in the conference:

• plenary report (15-20 minutes) with publication of the article;
• report at the session or workshop (5-7 minutes) with publication of the article;
• participation within the framework of the Professional Development Programme "Foreign Language Teaching Methodology in a Multilingual Environment: Sociocultural Approach";
