At the Department of Theory and Practice of Foreign Languages of the Institute of Foreign Languages, RUDN University a regular meeting of the scientific seminar “Linguodidactic Issues of Linguistics” will be held.

Seminar Theme: “Artificial Intelligence in Language Teaching”

Speaker: Nataliia L. Sokolova, Professor, PhD, author of over 130 scientific and scientific-methodical works. Highly cited scientist, h-index RSCI — 17, Web of Science — 17, Scopus — 7. Scientific interests: linguistics and information technology, speech etiquette, methods of teaching foreign languages, theory and practice of intercultural communication.

In her report, Nataliia L. Sokolova will talk about the essence and history of neural networks, highlight potential directions of future Artificial Intelligence (AI) developments, prospects and difficulties of application.

At present, we are on the threshold of a new era: AI is being introduced at breakneck speed into all spheres of human life. Education has not been spared, and in the long run it is capable of radically transforming its basic principles and forms. The speaker will touch upon 7 stages of AI development, including singularity theory.

The practical part will cover neural network resources that can be applied to teaching and learning foreign languages as well as specific examples, algorithms and features.
