About the event

On 19 December at 19:30 p.m. (Moscow time)

A seminar on a posteriori estimates “Variational problems and saddle point theory” will be held at RUDN University.

Speaker: Sergey Repin, Principal Researcher, PDMI RAS, St. Petersburg.

Saddle point theory is one of the sections of the modern theory of calculus of variations. It is used in optimal control theory, nonlinear programming, mechanics, economics, game theory and other applications.

The lecture will cover the basics of this theory including the existence of saddle points, methods of their approximation and numerical algorithms. The connections between minimax formulations and nonlinear boundary value problems involving variational inequalities will also be shown.
