Happy Birthday to RUDN! Lebanese alumni first congratulate Alma Mater on its anniversary
The planting of a symbolic “friendship tree” at the Embassy of Russia in Lebanon opened a series of events. RUDN graduates planted a tangerine seedling in honor of the 60th anniversary of the university. The ceremony was attended by University Vice-Rector Larisa Efremova and Russian Ambassador to Lebanon Alexander Zasypkin.
"This event is significant in that it symbolizes the continuation of glorious traditions, because before the revolution, the largest Russian missionary school in Lebanon, where children from different religious communities studied, was located on the territory of the Russian diplomatic mission," said Vadim Zaichikov, head of the Rossotrudnichestvo office in Beirut.
A round table “The Role and Opportunities of Alumni Associations in the Promotion of Russian Higher Education” was held at the Russian Center for Science and Culture in Beirut.
The program of the round table was developed taking into account the composition of the participants and allowed to discuss topical issues - training Lebanese in Russian universities, in particular at RUDN University, work on the integration of representatives of state and public organizations of Lebanon, business communities, graduates within the framework of the cluster approach of the Peoples' Friendship University of Russia, which has proved to be effective, especially in the Middle East.
Before the round table, all participants visited the photo exhibition made by the university specifically for the anniversary events taking into account regional specifics. Materials of the exhibition reflected the most important milestones in the formation and development of RUDN University. People immersed in the atmosphere of their student years finding photographs of their classrooms, their teachers, mentors and classmates.
The festive day ended with a gala concert. Congratulations were voiced by Ambassador of the Russian Federation in Lebanon Alexander Zasypkin, Vice-Rector of RUDN University for International Affairs Larisa Efremova, Director of the Rossotrudnichestvo office in Beirut Vadim Zaichikov, President of the Alumni Association of RUDN University in Lebanon Galina Abbas, President of the Association of Palestinian Alumni of Soviet and Russian Universities in Lebanon Ismail Abu Karrub, Vice - Chairman of the Lebanese-Russian Friendship Society Riad Najim.
The first graduates were awarded souvenirs and letters of honor on behalf of RUDN University Rector “For high professionalism and personal contribution to the establishment and development of the alumni movement in the Lebanese Republic, support for the initiatives of the Peoples' Friendship University of Russia”.
A teleconference with Moscow allowed graduates of different years to see their favorite teachers, management of the university, and also remember the years in the walls of Alma Mater.
In RUDN’s main building, Russian speech has mixed with Arabic and strict business suits with national attire. The reason for this is the 100th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Russia and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The university hosted a large-scale event “The Century of Friendship, Cultural and Scientific Exchange between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Russian Federation”, which brought together diplomats, scientists, rectors of leading universities, and students.
RUDN University delegation, led by the university's president Vladimir Filippov, paid an important official visit to China. The central events of the business visit were signing of a memorandum on the establishment of an International Scientific Center for Mathematics within the framework of the SCO University and awarding the title of Honorary Professor of Xi'an Jiaotong University to Vladimir Filippov. RUDN University also presented its educational potential at a world-class University Forum and a specialized exhibition.
From April 16 to 19, Casablanca hosted one of the largest international education exhibitions, where over 200 educational institutions from 40 countries presented their academic opportunities to young people from Morocco and other African countries.
