RUDN at the II Forum of Rectors of Russian and Turkish Universities

July 12, Vice-Rector for International Affairs Larisa Efremova and Director of the Department of International Scientific and Educational Cooperation Alexey Poyda took part in the 2nd Forum of Rectors of Russian and Turkish Universities, held in St. Petersburg as part of the 5th meeting of the Russian-Turkish public forum.

Forum co-chairs, Rector of the Southern Federal University, Irina Shevchenko, and Rector of Ankara University, Erkan Ibish, noted the growing interest of the Russian and Turkish sides in expanding scientific and educational cooperation - representatives of 36 higher education institutions of two states took part in the work of the Forum.

During the meeting the participants discussed the possibilities of developing programs for academic mobility of students and teachers and the prospects for implementing joint research projects. Special attention was paid to summer school programs, which could become a platform for the development of academic exchange programs between universities. Larisa Efremova, Vice-Rector for International Activities of RUDN University, made a proposal to create a single information portal about the upcoming events of partner universities, which will allow the parties to receive information in advance about scheduled scientific conferences, summer schools and other educational and scientific programs. This proposal was supported by all participants and will be reflected in the final protocol on the results of the work of the Forum.

Representatives of Turkish universities were also invited to take part in the International Scientific and Practical Conference "Internationalization global and internal: Modern Challenges", which will be held on February 6, 2020, and will be dedicated to the 60th anniversary of the RUDN University.

The Memorandum of Understanding with the University of Social Sciences of Ankara was signed in the frame of the Forum. University Rector Dr. Mehmet Barka stressed the importance of developing cooperation between universities in Russia and Turkey in the humanities and social sciences, which in the future will allow citizens of the two countries to better understand each other and build trust with regard to historical and cultural characteristics. In turn, representatives of RUDN invited the Rector of the University of Social Sciences of Ankara and his colleagues to participate in the VI and VII International Scientific Interdisciplinary Conference "Functional Aspects of Intercultural Communication and Translation Problems", which will be held at the base of the Institute of Foreign Languages ​​of RUDN in 2019 and 2020.

At the moment, 30 Turkish citizens are studying in the programs of the faculty of the Russian language and general education disciplines, undergraduate^ and graduate programs, while 5 Turkish citizens undergo continuing education programs.

In total, 98 specialists for the Republic of Turkey are trained at RUDN, the programs of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, the Faculty of Philology and the Law Institute being the most popular.
