RUDN University expands cooperation with Cuban universities

In September, a Cuban delegation comprising heads of 13 Cuban universities of the Republic of Cuba arrived in Russia to participate in the V Forum of University Rectors of Russia and Cuba. September 22, the Cuban delegation visited RUDN University.

Representatives of RUDN University agreed to create a Russian Language and Pre-University Training Center, as well as a specialized class at the Technological University of Havana (CUJAE). In addition, the parties discussed elaborating and implementing joint master’s programs in engineering. Also, RUDN University and the Medical University of Havana signed a cooperation agreement

The delegation of the Ministry of Higher Education of the Republic of Cuba comprised:

  • Reynaldo Velázquez Saldivar — Deputy Minister of Education and head of the delegation.
  • Barbara Elena Carell Fure — Advisor to the Minister, Head of the Department of International Relations.
  • Gustavo Cabreiro — Education and Science Advisor at the Cuban Embassy in the Russian Federation.

Students from the Republic of Cuba — facts and figures:

 

170 Cuban professionals graduated the Peoples’ Friendship University (UDN), including:

  • 38 — at the Engineering Academy;
  • 35 — at the Faculty of Science;
  • 29 — at the Agricultural and Technological Institute.

Currently, 23 citizens of the Republic of Cuba are studying at RUDN University, five of whom are 1st-year students.

The association of Cuban students has been working since 2009. The first president of the association was Vitarte Anton, a student of Law.

In 1995, the Federation of Students from Latin America and the Caribbean was created at RUDN University.

In 1970, students from the Faculty of Agriculture of the Peoples’ friendship university completed an internship in Cuba. They studied issues of agrochemistry, soil science and animal science in tropical conditions. Students of the Faculty of History and Philology also participated in the mobility project as interpreters.

In 1960, a Soviet-Cuban interstate cooperation agreement was signed. Scientists from the Peoples’ Friendship University and employees of the Central University of Las Villas (Santa Clara) conducted a joint study “Studying the characteristics of mineral nutrition and the effectiveness of different densities of rice sowing in Cuba”.

Earlier, RUDN delegation visited Cuba to participate in the XX Meeting of the intergovernmental Russian-Cuban commission on trade, economic, scientific and technical cooperation. Representatives of the university participated in meetings of the Russian-Cuban working group on education and science and signed a number of cooperation agreements.

10 profile officers of the Korle Klottey Municipal Assembly from the city of Accra (Ghana) are being trained at the school "Solid Waste Management and Circular Economy" of the Institute of Environmental Engineering of RUDN University.

RUDN University and Ghana: Common Strategy for Education-Business-Science

RUDN University is to train 100 specialists in Agronomy and Ecology for Ghana at the request of its industrial partner, the Jospong Group, which unites 60 companies. The number of trained personnel will amount to over 600 within 5 years. The fields of study which are of interest to the partner include Agronomy, Information Technology, Applied Nature Management, Ecology. The company is ready to pay for travel, accommodation and scholarships for these students. RUDN University will accept students within preferential rights.

“This trip would be incomplete without visiting the university”: on the visit of the delegation of the Republic of The Gambia to RUDN University

The delegation of the Republic of The Gambia led by the Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Mamadou Tangara visited the Peoples' Friendship University of Russia. Members of the delegation met with Rector Oleg Yastrebov and the staff of the Agricultural and Technological Institute of RUDN University, went on a tour of biotechnological laboratories and a laboratory for studying soils chemical composition and properties.
