The Academy of Engineering held a School of the Student Research Council

On may 28, 2020, the RUDN Academy of Engineering hosted the School of the Student Research Council. The students were addressed by Sergey Kupreev, deputy director for scientific work, doctor of technical sciences; Alexander V. Marusin, associate professor and second-year master’s student Yevgeniya V. Ermakova.

The main goal of the event was to increase students’ interest in research work. All the opportunities offered by the University to its students were discussed in detail.

At the beginning, Kupreev S.A. made an introductory speech, in which it was mentioned how the scientific work of students in the Academy of Engineering takes place, in the activities of which circles you can take part, what measures exist to support scientific activities. Detailed information was given about the scientific scholarship and funding opportunities, as well as about the competition for individual support of students in the framework of the "5-100"program.

In the second part of the event, students were told about the Council for Student’s Research Activity and about such an important process of scientific activity as writing an article. Yermakova E.V. shared her experience on this topic and told the students how the publication is created, and what key points it consists of. It was important to mention the forms of participation in conferences, types of publications and to analyze the structure of the article in parts.

In the final part of the School, Marusin A.V. told about scientific competitions such as UMNIK, shared his experience of participation and described the entire process of presenting developments at competitions of practice-oriented innovative projects. The speaker mentioned several key factors that should be considered when preparing projects and suggested options for further development of the project at the end of participation in the competition.

The final stage was passing a test-survey for the Student Research Society.

In total, the School was attended by more than 30 students from all undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate courses, as well as teachers.

In 2017, RUDN University scientists constructed a new explicit second-order precision difference scheme using modern computer algebra methods for 2-dimensional Navier-Stokes equations (NSE) [1]. This year, our mathematicians used a new scheme [2] to construct a numerical solution to the Cauchy problem with initial data (for t=0) as satisfying the continuity equation. Scientists managed to achieve previously unattainable accuracy of the continuity equation.
