BIOFUEL: MISCONCEPTIONS AND REALITY
May 28, 2.00pm Moscow time
Ecological problems, growing energy demand, and the prospect of oil depletion have created the need for the development of environmentally friendly technologies based on renewable raw materials. Can biofuel meet energy conservation needs and reduce greenhouse gas emissions? Or is it just a marketing ploy? Why do some people think that biofuel production is dangerous and what does hydrogen have to do with it? What research is being done on biofuel?
WHAT ISSUES WE WILL CONSIDER
From our lecture you will learn:
— What types of biofuel exist and how is it produced?
— How much does biofuel cost?
— Can biodiesel completely replace traditional diesel fuel?
— Is biofuel as safe as we are told?
— What does the experience of biofuel production and use show?
At the lecture you will hear 10 tricky questions about biofuel asked by the Dean of the Faculty of Science, Doctor of Chemical Sciences Leonid Voskressensky and answered by Professor Rafael Luque Alvarez de Sotomayor.
Language of the lecture — English.
About the speaker
Rafael Luque Alvarez de Sotomayor (University of Cordoba) is a recognized specialist in the field of organic chemistry, “green” chemistry, biomass valorization and heterogeneous catalysis. In 2018 and 2019, Claritive analytics agency recognized him as a most cited scientist. Hirsch Index — 70.
From 2018 to the present, he has been working at RUDN University as the Director of the research center “Molecular Design and Synthesis of Innovative Compounds for Medicine”.
