About the event

At the Department of Theory and Practice of Foreign Languages of the Institute of Foreign Languages, RUDN University a regular meeting of the scientific and methodological seminar “Linguo-didactic Issues of Linguistics” will be held.

Title: "Emotional Values in Linguocultural Research"

The report focuses on an analysis of anger in British and Russian linguocultures.

Emotional values refer to our deeply rooted convictions about emotions that shape our actions and decisions, and are encoded in neural circuits, influenced by past experiences, learning, and socialization. One of the approaches to study emotional values is through a comparative linguocultural analysis.

The research findings indicate that both British and Russian cultures view anger negatively, but they differ in their beliefs about expressing and controlling emotions. The British culture values emotional restraint, while Russian culture regards anger as a powerful but potentially harmful emotion. These differences reflect variations in cultural norms and expectations regarding emotional expression and control.
