Department of Microbiology and Virology

Date of foundation: 1961

The Head of Department – Yashina Natalia Vyacheslavovna, PhD in Medicine, Associate Professor.

Students of the Institute of Medicine and the Agrarian-Technological Institute are trained at the Department. Under the guidance of lecturers of the Department, students perform educational and research work in the modern bacteriological laboratory.

Lecturers of the Department are professors, associate professors, senior lecturers with extensive pedagogical experience. Diverse research interests of the academic staff open up the possibility of creating additional general education programmes. Such programmes form the students' fundamental ideas about the complexity of the interrelation between the microcosm and the macroorganism.

Department of Evidence-Based Medicine

Date of foundation: 2015

Head of Department – Koltunov Igor Efimovich, Doctor of Medicine, Professor, Honored Doctor of the Russian Federation, Chief Physician of the State Budgetary Healthcare Institution “Morozovskaya Children's City Clinical Hospital of the Moscow Healthcare Department”, Chief Pediatrician of the Moscow Healthcare Department.

At the Department of Evidence-Based Medicine students of the 4th year of study of the Institute of Medicine study a subject "Evidence-Based Medicine". The students are taught at the clinical site – in the Morozovskaya Children's City Clinical Hospital of the Moscow Healthcare Department (at the address: Moscow, 4th Dobryninsky Lane 1/9). The main task of the Department when working with students is the orientation of future specialists to practical activities from the standpoint of medicine based on evidence.

Department of Traumatology and Orthopedics

Date of foundation: 1992

The Head of Department – Zagorodny Nikolay Vasilyevich, Doctor of Medicine, Professor, Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

Currently the academic staff of the Department consists of 12 professors (Doctors of Medicine), 11 associate professors (PhD in Medicine) and 3 assistants (PhD in Medicine). All staff members of the Department regularly undertake internships in foreign clinics.

Students of the 5th and 6th year of study of the Institute of Medicine, as well as 32 clinical residents and 23 graduate students study at the Department. The Department works at 11 clinical sites in the institutions of the Moscow healthcare system, the Federal Medical Biological Agency, private clinics and the Administrative Directorate of the President of the Russian Federation.

Directions of research work performed at the Department: the development of domestic joint endoprostheses, the search for new ways of operating the spine, feet, hands, the improvement of methods of providing medical care in case of polytrauma, research in the field of joint arthroscopy and transplantation of cartilaginous tissue. A student science club operates at the Department on a permanent basis; its participants present their successes and achievements at conferences and olympiads.

Department of Skin and Venereal Diseases

Date of foundation: 1964

The Head of Department – Andrey Leonidovich Tishchenko, Doctor of Medicine, Professor.

Students of the Institute of Medicine majoring in "Medical Care" and "Dentistry" and medical residents of the field of study "Dermatovenereology" are taught at the Department. The main research areas of the Department: herpetic infection, papillomavirus infection, acne.

The Department is equipped with modern diagnostic and therapeutic equipment. A unique waxwork museum created at the Department consists of several hundred wax casts with images of various skin and venereal diseases. The Department cooperates with medical and educational institutions both in Russia and abroad (Italy, Uzbekistan). During the training, residents undertake an internship at healthcare institutions: "Moscow Scientific and Practical Center of Dermatovenereology and Cosmetology", "3rd Central Military Clinical Hospital named after A.A. Vishnevsky" of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation.

Department of Maxillofacial Surgery and Surgical Dentistry

Date of foundation: 1986

The Head of Department – Ivanov Sergey Yuryevich, Doctor of Medicine, Professor, Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

At the Department students of the Institute of Medicine study the following subjects: "Local Anesthesia and Anaesthesiology in Dentistry", "Oral Surgery", "Head and Neck Diseases", "Maxillofacial and Gnathic Surgery", "Implantology and Reconstructive Intra-Oral Surgery". In addition, the Department trains residents majoring in "Surgical Dentistry" and graduate students of the field of study "Clinical Medicine". The department staff conducts scientific research on problems of maxillofacial surgery and surgical dentistry. Priority research areas of the Department: reconstructive maxillofacial surgery, treatment of congenital and acquired defects and deformations of the maxillofacial area, dental implantology, development of biocomposite materials for the plastic repair of bone defects of the jaws and other skull bones.

Department of Forensic Medicine

Date of foundation: 1964

The Head of Department – Sundukov Dmitriy Vadimovich, Doctor of Medicine, Associate Professor.

The Department trains students of the Institute of Medicine of the fields of study "Medical Care" and "Dentistry", as well as medical residents majoring in "Forensic Medical Examination" and graduate students majoring in "Forensic Medicine". The Department performs research work on the study of bodily reactions at the level of histomorphological and morphometric changes in internal organs under the influence of extreme exogenous factors or, put it simply, changes in the organism due to poisoning with clozapine, ethyl alcohol, carbon monoxide. Besides, the area of expertise of the department staff includes the issues of forensic identification of a person in the examination of bone remains.

The work of the Student’s Science Club and research work form an integral part of the life of the Department. The Department annually holds all-Russian research-to-practice conferences, where students and lecturers of the Department present their developments and discoveries.

Department of Faculty Surgery

The Department trains students of the Institute of Medicine majoring in "Medical Care", "Dentistry", "Nursing Care". Lecturers of the Department give courses of lectures in the following subjects: "General Surgery", "Faculty Surgery", "Disease Surgery", "Surgical Nursing". In addition, the Department trains medical residents and graduate students majoring in "Surgery". Staff members of the Department perform research and practical work on the treatment of patients with internal diseases, search for new ways of treating patients with gastrointestinal bleeding, peritonitis, modern methods of alloplasty in case of abdominal hernias.

Department of General Medical Practice

The Head of Department – Sturov Nikolay Vladimirovich, PhD in Medicine, Associate Professor.

The Department gives lectures to students of the 5th and 6th years of study of the Institute of Medicine on the subject "Polyclinic Therapy" and trains medical residents majoring in "General Medical Practice (Family Medicine)". Training of young specialists is carried out at the following clinical sites: the Clinical Diagnostic Center of the Institute of Medicine of the Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia, emergency stations and specialized polyclinics in Moscow. The work of the Department with students is aimed at the orientation to the future practical activity, training of specialists to work in the primary care setting.

Department of Medical Informatics and Telemedicine

The Head of Department – Stolyar Valeriy Leonidovich, PhD in Biology, Associate Professor.

The creation and development of the Department is one of the key achievements in the field of information technologies in the Institute of Medicine of RUDN University. The Department teaches students the secrets of using information technologies in medicine. The scientific and academic activity of the Department combines the elements of information technologies, biological research and telemedicine. The Department develops cooperation with Russian and foreign colleagues. The use of the teleconference studio and direct space bridges allows keeping in contact with the regions of Russia, Brazil, India and European countries.

Department of General and Clinical Pharmacology

Date of foundation: 1962

The Head of Department – Zyryanov Sergey Kensarinovich, Doctor of Medicine, Professor.

The Department gives lectures to students of the Institute of Medicine majoring in "Medical Care", "Pharmacy", "Nursing Care" on the subjects "Pharmacology" and "Clinical Pharmacology". As part of postgraduate studies the Department trains medical residents majoring in "Clinical Pharmacology". Clinical sites of the Department are located in Moscow healthcare institutions – City Clinical Hospital No. 24, City Polyclinic No. 2.

Research areas of the Department: pharmacoeconomic and pharmacoepidemiological research, study of efficacy and safety of medicines in elderly patients, development of methodological bases for the organization of the pharmacovigilance system.

Description of the Institute

The Medical Institute of the Russian People's Friendship University trains medical and pharmaceutical workers in all major specialties.

Students undergo practical training and clinical training in more than 160 public and private clinics. Teaching how to treat patients, modern methods of diagnosis, professional communication, the institute carries out the training of highly qualified doctors of international level.

The institute trains more than 6 500 students, residents and post-graduate students under the supervision of 690 teachers (including 162 doctors of sciences and 293 candidates of science). There are 12 dissertation councils on medical and biological sciences and 1 dissertation council on pharmaceutical sciences.

The Medical Institute is a member of the International Society for Telemedicine and Electronic Health. The Department of Telemedicine and Health Informatization has been established at the Faculty for Advanced Training of Medical Workers, which trains specialists in telemedicine, an innovative tool for creating and maintaining modern healthcare systems. The employees are members of the Expert Council of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation on the use of information and communication technologies in the healthcare sphere, they were the initiators and participants in the creation of the medical part of the Unified State Information System. Thanks to the staff of the department, advanced domestic developments, surpassing the world standards and operating in many countries of the world, providing access to medical services, optimizing the use of resources, increasing the efficiency of providing medical services and improving their quality, have been launched on the market.

The main goal of the institute is the qualitative education of medical workers, innovative scientific activity and the introduction of its results in practical health care and education, the formation of high morality of students.

Center for simulation training

The Center for Simulation Training (CSO) provides classes for all students starting from the 2nd year. Preparations are being made for accreditation in the fields of "Medicine", "Stomatology", "Pharmacy", and «Nursing". The area of the center is about 2,400 sq.m.  This is 41 specially equipped audiences. The RUDN simulator center occupies 3 floors.

The goal is to practice skills in "no stress" conditions without constant monitoring of the mentor, the work of the clinic without risk for the patient. Simulation technologies create conditions that are as close to real as possible:

  • pharmacists participate in the production of drugs; take products from forwarders, release medicines and many others;
  • dentists examine the oral cavity, conduct sealing and prosthetics, perform surgical operations and many others;
  • students specializing in "Medicine" conduct a survey of patients, make diagnoses, prescribe courses of treatment, demonstrate the skills of therapy and surgery.
  • students of the direction "Nursing" show the ability to help patients, doctors, colleagues. The center checks the skills of patient care, assisting doctors in operations and during the rehabilitation period.

The RUDN simulator training center has simulators for injections, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, transthoracic echocardiography, laparoscopic and gynecological simulators, mannequins for improving patient care skills, setting gastrointestinal probes, and dental simulators. The center conducts training and control of students' knowledge and skills, as well as the preparation of the best students for participation in professional international Olympiads.

  • DPO Program: The cycle of professional retraining "Organization of Nursing". The duration is 252 academic hours.

Faculty of advanced training of medical workers

The Faculty of Advanced Training of Medical Workers (FPK MP) implements more than 1100 programs of professional development and professional retraining for doctors, nurses, and pharmacists.We are studying in clinical residency, internship, postgraduate and doctoral studies. In the educational process, there are 49 departments and a scientific and educational center, 330 teachers (including 132 doctors of science and 28 candidates of science). The classes are conducted by the world's leading leaders in medical science and public health. The faculty annually trains more than 10,000 students in 67 specialties of higher education and 29 secondary education specialties. The faculty develops new forms of education - remote, interactive and simulation. These are key areas that can effectively convey to the listener educational materials and improve the quality of the educational process.
The faculty of advanced training of medical workers is an active participant in the process of Continuing Medical Education.

Scientific and educational laboratory "Innovations in medicine"

On the basis of telemedicine and simulation technologies, the scientific and educational laboratory "Innovations in Medicine" was created. The laboratory was created to conduct research and provide a practical component of the educational process. The main tasks of the scientific laboratory:

  • introduction and development of information and telecommunication technologies in medicine
  • improving the quality of teaching students, clinical residents, graduate students using modern information and communication technologies;
  • providing open access to educational information resources;
  • development and implementation of programs for continuous medical and pharmaceutical education;
  • organization of cooperation with universities and scientific centers in the use of information and telecommunication technologies in medical and pharmaceutical education.
