A RUDN University chemist synthesized fluorescent compounds with "merry-go-round" molecules that can be used to create economical displays with organic LEDs (OLED). The nucleus of these molecules is a triangle of silver or copper atoms, and organic elements are bound to it through phosphorus atoms and are able to rotate around them. This molecular geometry doubled the quantum yield of luminescence to 41 percent. In modern OLED screens, this figure is 20 percent. The article is published in Inorganic Chemistry.
A chemist from RUDN University has developed a tin silicate catalyst for the production of esters — flavours, plasticisers, and biofuel components. Unlike existing catalysts, the new material can be made active again and reused. The results are published in the journal Microporous and Mesoporous Materials.
RUDN University mathematician proposed a method for calculating the optimal trajectory of spacecraft with electric propulsion, whose thrust is thousands times less than chemical one has, but it is able to work for years. These motors are best suited for interplanetary missions. Mathematicians calculated the flight parameters of the space probe with such motor to Mars and Mercury. The paper is published in the journal Cosmic Research.
RUDN University chemists have discovered a unique method for making plastic film based on natural polysaccharides. It simultaneously has antioxidant, antimicrobial and barrier properties, and protects the content against ultraviolet exposure. Using the film to package and coat food products will considerably extend their shelf life.

RUDN mathematicians confirmed that the Earth has other satellites besides the Moon - cosmic dust clouds that are difficult to observe. A hypothesis about their existence had been developed 60 years ago, but first confirmations were obtained only last year. The calculations of RUDN mathematicians give a mathematical proof of the obtained data and will be used to plan space missions. The results of the study were published in the Acta Astronautica journal.
In XVII century, summarizing results of numerous experiments Newton formulated the basic laws of classical mechanics. At the very beginning of XX century, analyzing laws of electrodynamics, Einstein proposed equations of motion of a very fast particle; it was the origin of relativistic mechanics. Decades later, summarizing empiric facts on micro-scales, theoreticians invented quantum mechanics with Schrodinger equation as its conventional version. These three branches of mechanics are in fact very different theories – in math sense as well as in comprehension, – and we have accustomed to learn and use them as separate informational units. However, Alexander Yefremov, a mathematician from RUDN University, claims that not all this is so plain. In his recent book “The General Theory of Particle Mechanics: A Special Course” issued by Cambridge Scholars Publishing (UK) in 2019, he tries to convince us that only one law of mechanics rules the Nature, the other three being its special manifestations.
A RUDN chemist synthesized nanomaterials for water purification, catalysis of organic reactions and sensors. The substances were developed on the basis of porous carbon with iron oxide and nitrogen particles. The article was published in Applied Surface Science.
