Profession

Pediatrics as a science was separated from “big medicine” in the 2nd half of the 19th century, although advice about care of children and treating some childhood diseases can be found in ancient sources (works by Hippocrates, Ibn Sina, Zhang Zhongjing, etc.).
In the 15-17 centuries, the first special books with a description of childhood diseases appeared in Europe.
At the beginning of the 19th century, the first children's hospitals and special children's doctors appeared.
Towards the end of the same century, the Paris School of Pediatricians was organized, where they began to train pediatricians for all of Europe. In the 20th century, pediatric schools appeared in other European countries.
Modern pediatrics sets itself the task of diagnosing and treating many pathologies, taking into account the physiological characteristics of the various developmental stages of the child's body.

Educational Process

The structure of the residency program includes the basic part (compulsory) and the part formed by the participants in educational relations (optional). This provides the possibility of implementing residency programs having a different focus of the program within the same training direction.
Disciplines: Pediatrics, Emergencies medicine, Pedagogy (pedagogical aspects in the doctor’s activities), Public health and healthcare, Pathology, Neonatology, Congenital and hereditary diseases in children, Pediatric Clinical Immunology, Pediatric Cardiology and Intensive Care, Foreign language in the field of professional communication, Russian as a foreign language in the field of professional communication, Telemedicine, Statistics in medical research, Legal liability of health workers for professional offenses, Emergency pediatrics, Children's pulmonology.

Practice

The practice is conducted on the clinical bases of the department and includes a training simulation course, work in the leading pediatric healthcare institutions of Moscow, in the simulation center of RUDN University, and participation in All-Russian and regional scientific and practical conferences. During the practical course, students receive extensive visual knowledge on the diagnosis, clinical manifestations, course and methods of treatment of various diseases of children and adolescence.

Career

The profession of pediatrician is the most demanded in modern children's medicine. A pediatrician can be employed in the district polyclinic service, as a narrow specialist at a consultative appointment in an outpatient clinic, in a children's hospital, maternity hospital, or perinatal center. Today, some schools and kindergartens (mainly private ones) also introduce the position of pediatrician. In addition, there is the possibility of employment in sanatoriums with their own advisory rooms, health centers, and in camps.
