About the event

On March 11, 2026, the scientific center “Smart technologies for sustainable development of the urban environment in the context of global changes” of ATI RUDN University will organize an international scientific seminar “Microbial community of soils of urban and technogenic ecosystems of the Far North: the example of the Murmansk region”. The event will be held in a mixed format on the Yandex Telemost platform. The working language is Russian.

The seminar will address the characteristics of microbial communities in anthropogenically disturbed and urban ecosystems in the Russian Arctic. It will discuss the key properties of soils contaminated by industrial emissions, as well as the properties of soils and soil structures in Arctic cities (Murmansk and Apatity), and the characteristics of microbial communities: their quantitative characteristics, functional activity, and taxonomic diversity. Special attention will be paid to the biological characteristics of fine dust in the air-green space-sealed surface (asphalt) system in different functional zones of Murmansk. The seminar will also discuss the consequences of changes in microbial communities in soils of green infrastructure for the condition of green spaces, human health, and the overall provision of ecosystem services in Arctic cities.
