About the event

November 20-21, 2018, the International Scientific Board in the field of "Chemical Sciences" will be held at the Peoples' Friendship University of Russia featuring public lectures and master classes by leading Russian and foreign researchers.

20 November

Lecture: “Advances in the discovery of low-molecular-mass inhibitors of multidrug resistance in cancer chemotherapy”

Lecturer: Cosimo Damiano Altomare (Cosimo Damiano Altomare, h = 26), Professor at the University of Bari (Italy)

The lecture is devoted to joint research of the University of Bari and RUDN scientists. Multiple resistance of tumor cells to chemotherapy is one of the problems that doctors face in treating cancer. It happens die to the so-called efflux pumps, proteins in the cell membrane that protect against toxic substances from penetrating through it. When something foreign gets into the cell, the efflux pump attempts to push it out of the cell. That is why chemotherapeutic drugs are often ineffective. Pores are formed in the cell membrane, releasing the chemotherapeutic drug into the extracellular space. Further, in the process of metabolism, the drug is converted and excreted from the body.

Lecturer professor Cosimo Damiano Altomare, (h = 26), University of Bari (Italy)

When: 12.00 am - 1.20 pm

21 November

Lecture:  “Challenges and Solutions in the Formation of C-C Bond”

Lecturer: professor Andrey V. Malkov, (h = 37), Loughborough University (England)

Bipyridines and related diazines are important classes of organic compounds that often find application in the development of drugs, new functional materials and catalysis. In particular, chiral 2,2'-bipyridines, as well as their N-oxides and N, N'-dioxides, can serve as effective chiral regulators in both organocatalytic and metal-catalyzed asymmetric transformations. A common synthetic approach to such bis-heterocycles is based on metal-catalyzed cross-coupling reactions of monohalogen derivatives. The presentation will show the latest results in the field of stereoselective production of chiral bipyridine derivatives from pyridine N-oxides under mild conditions using oxygen as the terminal oxidant. To illustrate the catalytic efficiency of the compounds obtained, several asymmetric catalytic transformations will be presented.

When: 2.00-3.20 pm

Lecture: "Modern Radiation Technologies"

Lecturer: Stepan Kalmykov, Doctor of Chemistry, Corresponding Member and Professor of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Faculty of Chemistry, MSU.

When: 3.20-4.40 pm
