Lecture «To the issue of multiculturalism in Indonesian literature»
On 30 January at 18:00 p.m. (Moscow time)
On January 30, 2024, within the framework of academic and methodological online seminar of the Foreign Languages Department of the Agrarian and Technological Institute of RUDN University, invited lector Firman Parlindungan (Doctor in Philology, assistant professor of University of Teuku Umar, Aceh, Indonesia) is going to give the lecture entitled “To the issue of multiculturalism in Indonesian literature”.
The lecture is devoted to the stages of the formation of the concept of multiculturalism in the artistic consciousness and literary creativity of Indonesia. In 1945, the independence of the Republic of Indonesia was proclaimed and in the same year its Constitution was adopted, in which the education of the people was declared a priority area determining the future of the nation. Currently, the Republic of Indonesia is the largest multinational country: it has more than 300 peoples and more than 700 living languages (dialects), despite the fact that the official language is Indonesian.
The broad interpretation of the concept of multiculturalism and the process of transition from its theoretical justification to the level of practical implementation in the policy of states actualized in the cultural consciousness the understanding of the problems of tolerance towards manifestations of other culture, freedom in following a given cultural tradition. In this regard, the problem of the formation of multicultural identity and at the same time the preservation of national identity, inseparable from multicultural processes, has been identified.
Languages — English.
The lecture convenes the staff of the Foreign Languages Department of the Agrarian and Technological Institute, Ph.D. students and students enrolled in “Translator” program at the Agrarian and Technological Institute (up to 25 attendees).
