Students’ intercultural competence is extremely high. A simultaneous interpreter is also a specialist in psycholinguistics and a professional in communication theory and speech practice. Simultaneous interpreter regulates interpersonal relations easily and eliminates conflicts and disagreements in negotiations and moreover, is a unique specialist in all fields and spheres of life. One can not handle simultaneous interpreting activity not knowing the subject and the essence of the conversation or negotiations.


Educational Process

Master’s degree programme “Communication Theory and Simultaneous Interpretation” is developed to train highly qualified specialists with the proficiency level knowledge of at least two foreign languages. The key part of the programme is intensive practical training in simultaneous interpretation. The main goal is to prepare a specialist who will be able to carry out cross-cultural interpersonal mediation, neutralize conflicts, manage people and processes, creatively and independently carry out such activities as education and training as well as research work. Alongside with the traditional disciplines connected with the theory and practice in communication such innovative subjects as Semiotics, Political Discourse, Quantitative Linguistics and IT Technologies are taught.


Practice

Internship process of preparing simultaneous interpreters starts from the day one of the programme and never ends. Skills and abilities of simultaneous interpreters are developed owing to intensive everyday practice. Interactive practical methods of teaching are widely used at lectures, seminars and practical lessons. Among them are interactive conversation, interview and role play, imitation and business games, round-table discussions and others. Besides, special time is devoted to simultaneous translation activity of the students at different international forums.


Career

Simultaneous interpreters are in great demand. Simultaneous interpreters work in top international organizations, ministries and embassies, governmental structures. Some of them continue research work in the field of linguistics and modern languages, international and intercultural communication, theory of translation and interpretation and others. There are graduates who prefer teaching practice in the field of simultaneous interpretation.
