An oncologist – is a Doctor who diagnoses and treats malignant and benign tumors, precancerous conditions. An oncologist pays much attention also to prophylactics of oncological diseases, detects tumors at early stages, assesses malignization during transition of benign tumors into malignant ones, detects tissues hyperplasia, tumors metastases. A Doctor of that specialty must not only detect the tumor timely, but also to differentiate it. The newest diagnostic methods help him/her in that process. After precise diagnosis, surgery and other effective treatment methods are planned. The range of an oncologist’s skills in prophylactics allows prevention of cancer or at least reduction of its risks.
Educational Process
The program of residentship provides professional competence in the diagnostics and treatment of malignant tumors, the knowledge in theories and practice of oncogenesis, as the necessary ground for early detection and successful treatment of those severe diseases.
Practice
The residents are allocated to clinical bases of the Chair, where they are tutored by the Professors in the process of not only getting the new theoretical information, but also of gaining practical skills. The residents take part in the discussion of clinical cases, which is the good basis for getting broad clinical experience.
Career
Oncology is a very much demanded specialty in the modern medicine, as malignant and benign tumors develop in all ages and both in men and women. Timely diagnostics is necessary to ensure successful treatment and cure of patients. The graduates of the program have the good opportunity to become staff members of oncological departments of hospitals, of specialized oncological centers, oncological research institutes.
