Psychiatrist is a doctor who deals with treatment, diagnosis and prevention of diseases associated with disorders of mental activity. In the course of medical education, doctors of this profile acquire knowledge of psychology, psychiatry and psychotherapy. Therefore, a psychiatrist can not only diagnose a mental disorder, but also prescribe the necessary procedures for its elimination, link the detected disease with somatic pathology, and explain the necessary measures to prevent the recurrence of the disease.
The main treatment for a psychiatrist is medication therapy. However, it is supplemented with psychotherapy-they explain to the patient the causes and methods of treatment of his illness, provide moral support, and mobilize the patient's own forces to fight the disease. Modern psychiatrists also participate in the development of social programs aimed at preventing the development of mental disorders in the population, developing healthy lifestyle skills, and solving social, expert, and ethical and legal issues.


Educational Process

During two years of training, residents lead patients with mental illnesses, learn the basics and nuances of diagnosis and treatment, medical ethics, methods of interaction with complex patients, new therapies, and the clinical picture of certain mental disorders.

Practice

The practice takes place in psychiatric departments that deal with issues of child, adult and gerontological psychiatry. The spectrum of patients includes patients with psychosomatic, organic pathology, endogenous psychoses, affective States, alcohol and drug addictions.


Career

Today, psychiatry is a system with a well-structured scientific, clinical and pharmacological base, combining the entire range of modern methods and means of treatment of mental disorders. Psychiatrists working in psychiatric hospitals as a neuropsychiatrist at the clinics, in the scientific-practical centers. To conduct private practice, a psychiatrist must obtain a special license in addition to a specialist certificate.
