In the context of globalization, despite the fact that knowledge of foreign languages is becoming the norm, deep linguistic knowledge remains extremely in demand in various fields, whether it be teaching, interpreting, translation or simultaneous interpreting. Simultaneous interpreting is one of the most difficult types, where the interpreter translates into the target language at the same time listening to the speech in the source language, which requires specialized skills and extensive training.
Simultaneous interpreting is given a special role in connection with the internationalization of all spheres of state and public life, an increase in the number of international conferences, forums, negotiations, teleconferences, the successful work of which largely depends on the professional level of simultaneous interpreters. The profession of an interpreter allows you to work in international companies, take part in global forums and major international conferences. This is a prestigious and interesting occupation for people who enjoy learning foreign languages and cultures.


Educational Process

The program provides for the formation of competences necessary for successful work in the field of linguistics, theory and practice of interpreting and translation (including simultaneous translation), teaching foreign languages, provides training for highly qualified specialists who can put into practice the system of scientific knowledge in linguistics and intercultural communication, and methods of teaching foreign languages.
Video courses, webinars, videoconferences, presentations, discussions, debates, as well as lecturing are widely used for practical classes and seminars. Since students have more time for self-study, a lot of time is devoted to wiki technologies. The teaching materials self-study assignments have been updated: YouTube videos are used to develop listening skills; links to updated SpeakApps resources are added; new authentic academic writing complexes have been uploaded. For practical classes, the simultaneous translation classroom has been equipped at the Faculty of Philology.
The main disciplines of the program: “Fundamentals of simultaneous translation”, “Methods of teaching languages”, “Pedagogical conflictology”, “Principles of translation of commercial and legal documentation”, “Ethnic and stylistic foundations of translation”.


Practice

In the process of studying, students get the opportunity to undergo various types of practices. In the first year, teaching and translation practice begins. Monthly master classes by specialists in various fields of linguistics, participation in international conferences, communication with potential employers — all this allows future specialists to form professional competencies.
RUDN University cooperates with leading universities in the world, organizes foreign internships for students under academic mobility programs (including Erasmus + program) in Spain, France, Italy, Great Britain, Poland, China, Japan, Jordan, Palestine, Morocco and other countries. The list of potential employers in Moscow, with whom regular contacts have been worked out for students to practice, includes institutions of the Moscow Department of Education, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, the Directorate for Sports and Entertainment Events (Moscow), as well as other Russian and international companies.
