Profession

The word “financier” is of the French origin and translated as “knowledgeable in finance”. There has never been a greater demand for professionals with financial management skills in various sectors (public, corporate and regional sectors of the development management), who can successfully work for investment funds, banks and finance companies, economic and financial departments of companies, government agencies at federal, regional and municipal levels.
Financiers determine the strategies of companies and businesses in general, organise budget execution; can work on the stock exchanges, analyse financial documents, optimise taxation. They have the skills of analyzing and planning of social and economic development, anti-crisis management in regions of the country.
The profession of the financier allows you to receive a decent salary in companies of any type of ownership and successfully run a business on your own.


Educational Process

The interdisciplinary nature of the programme “Financial Management in Economic Sectors” is ensured by the close cooperation between the Departments of Regional Economics and Geography, Political Economy and Finance and Credit.
The programme comprises an advanced study of micro- and macroeconomics, methods of mathematical and financial analysis, practice-oriented courses on the use of financial management strategies in public and corporate economic sectors, in regional development management (“Banking Management”, “GIS in Sector and Territory Management”, “Public-Private Partnership in Regional Economic Development”, “Public Entrepreneurship”, “Investment Management”, “Tax Management in Corporate and Public Sectors”). The programme is taught within interactive modules and active methods such as training courses, business games, case studies and projects aimed at assessment of the financial sustainability of enterprises, the efficiency of investments, strategic policies and economic reforms.
The programme is delivered by the professors and associate professors of RUDN, heads of financial institutions, state and municipal authorities, practicing experts. The programme has the international accreditation by FIBAA (2014), favorable opinions of the Accounts Chamber of the Russian Federation, Plekhanov Russian University of Economics, VTB Bank's Deputy Chairman of the Management Board V.V. Lukyanenko.


Practice

Graduates of the programme undergo internships in the leading Russian and foreign companies, state institutions: Rosbank, VTB Bank, Moscow City Duma, Federal Antimonopoly Service, PwC (PriceWaterhouseCoopers), Institute for Urban Economics, Moscow Government agencies. During internships, students are involved in implementing of the employer’s current projects.
Students of the programme “Financial Management in Economic Sectors” actively participate in national and international conferences, scientific schools and workshops. Each year they are the winners of the Vladimir Potanin Scholarship Programme.


Career

Upon completion of the programme, graduates shall become highly qualified professionals in financial management to work in financial institutions, financial and industrial groups, financial corporations, financial markets; to become managers and specialists in different fields of public sector (healthcare, education, housing and public utilities, social insurance and social security, law enforcement); to use their potential in regional and municipal administration, public service analysis, planning of socio-economic development and anti-crisis management in regions and municipalities.
Graduates of the programme hold senior positions in major international companies: Felipe De La Rosa (Colombia, graduated in 2013) is a portfolio manager for international markets at General Invest; Natalia Lipovskaya (Russia, graduated in 2016) is a tax specialist at Deloitte; Taras Zayets (Russia, graduated in 2017) – a foreign project manager at Wolframine Ltd.; Diabate Wassiafa (Cote d'Ivoire, graduated in 2012) — PhD in Economics, lecturer at Peleforo Gon Coulibaly University (UPGC), Cote d'Ivoire.
