The professional activity of a modern philologist is impossible without the use of digital technologies, tools, and resources. Creating search services, conducting linguistic examination of websites, blogs and social networks, critical research of media texts, and developing content for digital resources require the development of 21st century technologies by a specialist digital philologist.

Digital technologies today are used for interpreting texts, reconstruct, visualize, and animate processes, characterize sociocultural phenomenon.
Studying in the Master’s educational program “Digital Philology” will allow the graduate to master both comprehensive knowledge in modern philology and skills in working with digital technologies, solving such types of problems as the development of data analysis tools and the analysis itself; linguistic expertise of IT products, project management in the sociocultural sphere, Internet marketing and advertising.

Digital philologists will be able to analyze almost limitless text arrays using software products and special databases, solve applied problems from such a field of knowledge, as Digital Humanities, and create different corpora of texts and dictionaries in the information environment. They are responsible for creating text databases, electronic libraries with access to rare or unique publications, become scientific communicators, go to work in Data Science and NLP engineering (Natural Language Processing: part of data analysis related to natural language processing).


Educational Process

The basis of training in the educational program “Digital Philology” is a meta-subject approach that combines universal philological competencies with specific competencies - digital.
During the program, students receive professional knowledge in the field of modern philology, semiotics, cognitive science, analysis of modern language processes, corpus linguistics, information stylistics, literary editing of media texts, implementation of intercultural practices in digital and traditional environments, as well as practical skills in the field of automatic analysis text, automatic natural language processing, programming, electronic linguodidactics.

An important element of training is the effective use of data mining programs, machine learning and corpus linguistics in technological information processing processes, production of numeral media content, graphic content, multimedia content, programming in high-level languages. For these purposes, the program includes the following subjects:

 text analytics;
 linguistic and sociological analysis of social networks;
 web development;
 interactive visualization of materials;
 semantic processing of information;
 critical communication studies;
 digital technologies for comparative text research;
 digital marketing tools and services;
 pedagogical design;
 tools for project activities in the humanitarian sphere;
 legal issues in digital humanities;
 programming in Python;
 spreadsheet editor: advanced Excel;
 database management systems in the humanitarian field;
 machine learning and speech recognition tools;
 social network analysis algorithms.

The Digital Philology program provides for the study of two foreign languages.
The development and implementation of a block of practical training is carried out jointly with representatives of the leaders of domestic digital business


Practice

Several types of practices are provided in the program.
Each practice is aimed at developing specific skills and each allows students to fully apply theoretical knowledge.

The practice base will be the International Center for Digitalization of Pre-University Training of the Russian Language Institute of the RUDN University, the Center for the Development of Digital Technologies in Educational Processes of the RUDN University, the Laboratory of Distance Learning of the RUDN University, Russian and foreign partner universities.
Research work and pre-graduation practice are based on organizations in the real sector of the economy.
