About the event

The Department of Social Pedagogy of the Institute of Foreign Languages of RUDN University holds the regular meeting of the scientific and methodological seminar “Topical Issues of Social Pedagogy, Psychology and Management of Developing the Human Resources of Society (Social Management)”

Title: “Rooms of Temporary Solitude” as an Element of Safe and Comfortable Educational Environment

Speaker — Samokhin Ivan Sergeevich — a highly cited young scientist, candidate of philological sciences, associate professor, author of over 90 scientific and methodological works. H-Index RSCI — 9, Scopus — 4.

The report considers the prospects of using the innovation proposed by the speaker to improve the level of safety and comfort of the school educational environment.

The relevance of the study is due to the law “On Education in the Russian Federation,” aimed at further humanization of the educational process.

I.S. Samokhin will describe his project — the “rooms of temporary solitude” (“oases of privacy”) which are designed as lockable-from-the-inside single cabins with a chair and a pull-out table, where any student can have a rest during the break. It is noted that these cabins should not be confused with the so-called “sensory rooms” (or “relaxation rooms”), which perform more functions and do not require the presence of only one person.

In the practical part, the results of testing the students of 7th — 9th grades are analyzed, allowing to assess the schoolchildren’s need of solitude between the lessons and their attitude to the proposed innovation. It is shown that the idea of the “rooms of temporary solitude” in Russian schools is supported by more than half of the test participants — 53.3 %. The share of respondents seeking or at least inclined to visit such cabins is 46.4 %. The reasons why students want to spend a break alone are given.
