Profession

Graduates’ main activity is scientific research work in areas where mathematical methods and computer technologies are required. Research is directed towards improvement of existing methods and development of new solutions for practical problems in the fields of mathematical models and analysis of complex systems (including physical, technical, economic, static and stochastic ones).
Master graduates can work as researchers in leading science institutions in the areas of development of mathematical and imitation models of communication and informational networks; and creation of economic, static and stochastic systems; analysis of static research and probability processes of real economic sectors (including digital ones).

Educational Process

The main goal of the course is to form students' competencies required to solve modern theoretical and practical problems of mathematical modeling of various processes and systems.
The course comprises the most essential subjects in fundamental informatics and informational technologies, including: “Continuous and discrete mathematical models”, “Variational methods in mathematical modeling”, “Numerical methods”, “Theory of random processes”, “Mathematical theory of teletraffic”, “Queuing theory”, “Mathematical statistics”, “Economic modeling”, “Computer analysis of time series”, “Mathematical basis of information security” and “High performance computing”.
One of the obligatory parts of the course is active research work under the supervision of leading specialists, including creation and analysis of mathematical models with analytical and numerical methods, development of algorithmic solutions and additional programming complexes for solving modern problems of mathematical modeling of complex systems, active participation in scientific activities (seminars, conferences, youth schools, lectures).
All research work and educational activities are held in multimedia classrooms, scientific laboratories and centers of the Institute of Applied Mathematics and Telecommunications of the RUDN University. Classes are held in computer classrooms, equipped with modern facilities and software required for computing experiments.

Practice

The curriculum includes educational internship aimed at applying theoretical knowledge to practical problems, research work, and undergraduate internships.
All internships and research activities are held at the computer center of the Office of Information Technology Support, Low Current and Telecommunication Systems of the RUDN University, the scientific laboratory “Management of informational communication” at the department of applied informatics and probability theory, and scientific centers of the Institute of Applied Mathematics and Telecommunications of the RUDN University. In accordance with cooperation agreements with the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research placement could also be held at the Federal Research Center “Informatics and Management” and the Laboratory of Informational Technologies.
Students are also invited to annual master classes taught by leading experts, representatives of employers working in real sectors of economy, and Russian and foreign scientists from leading universities and scientific centers; and are involved in programs of academic mobility with foreign scientific organizations, including Tampere University, Brno University of Technology, Mediterranea University of Reggio Calabria, University of Pisa and University of Lisbon.

Career

Those who have chosen a career as a specialist in the field of Applied Mathematics and Informatics solve theoretical and practical problems of programming and data analysis and figure out solutions to problems of mathematical and computer modeling of complex systems in different areas of professional activities.
Possible jobs:
researcher, manager of information technology projects, system analyst.
