RUDN University confirms the title of the "greenest" university in Russia and strengthens its position in the global ranking

RUDN rose to the 26th position in the UI GreenMetric 2022 ranking and confirmed the status of the “greenest” university in Russia. The ranking includes 1,050 world universities, of which 52 are Russian.

“Despite the ever-increasing competition, RUDN has once again confirmed its leadership. The university conducts scientific research in the field of environmental protection and sustainable development. In terms of the number and level of scientific, technical, educational, educational events in these areas, RUDN University is among the leaders in Russia.

In November 2022, an international conference dedicated to the Sustainable Development Goals brought together more than 1,000 participants from 50 countries. The annual event of RUDN together with UI GreenMetric — National Round Tables ‘Green Universities of Russia’ — traditionally attracts participants from Belarus, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, China, Russia and other countries.

Since 2017, the university has been implementing an environmental policy, and since 2021, the Healthy and Green Campus program. RUDN environmental experts are represented in Russian and international organizations. For more than 30 years, specialized experts have been trained at the Institute of Ecology. We are constantly expanding our partner network of ‘green’ universities. We are ready to share our experience in the field of greenhouse gas management, environmental monitoring, and the creation of an optimal campus infrastructure”, said Elena Savenkova, Director of RUDN Institute of Environmental Engineering.

UI GreenMetric is the first world ranking that evaluates universities for the compliance with the “eco-friendly” principle. The ranking takes into account 6 indicators:

  • location and infrastructure;
  • energy saving and climate change;
  • waste management;
  • water resources;
  • transport policy;
  • research and education.

Over the year, RUDN University has improved its performance in the categories “Transport” (+ 150 points) and “Location and Infrastructure” (+ 100 points). In the Energy and Climate Change category, the results of RUDN University have improved by 85 points, and in the Education category — by 25. In general, the university has gone up 2 positions among the 1,050 leading green universities in the world in the 2022 ranking.
