What is the role of language in the post-industrial digital society of the third millennium? This issue was discussed by the participants of the annual international conference "Society and Languages in the Third Millennium: Communication. Education. Translation", which took place on May 22-23, at the Department of Foreign Languages of the RUDN Law Institute to draw the attention of the participants to the various aspects of language functioning of the in modern society.
June 4, the conference “Global Trends in Migration 2020: Security, Health and Integration” began at RUDN. 150 delegates from 26 countries highlighted the main migration trends and shared practical recommendations. The focus of attention is the integration of migrants and their children into society.
In XVII century, summarizing results of numerous experiments Newton formulated the basic laws of classical mechanics. At the very beginning of XX century, analyzing laws of electrodynamics, Einstein proposed equations of motion of a very fast particle; it was the origin of relativistic mechanics. Decades later, summarizing empiric facts on micro-scales, theoreticians invented quantum mechanics with Schrodinger equation as its conventional version. These three branches of mechanics are in fact very different theories – in math sense as well as in comprehension, – and we have accustomed to learn and use them as separate informational units. However, Alexander Yefremov, a mathematician from RUDN University, claims that not all this is so plain. In his recent book “The General Theory of Particle Mechanics: A Special Course” issued by Cambridge Scholars Publishing (UK) in 2019, he tries to convince us that only one law of mechanics rules the Nature, the other three being its special manifestations.

A RUDN chemist synthesized nanomaterials for water purification, catalysis of organic reactions and sensors. The substances were developed on the basis of porous carbon with iron oxide and nitrogen particles. The article was published in Applied Surface Science.
If a patient is treated from ischemic stroke after-effects using the cerebral hypothermia method, their diet is adjusted, and they are expected to consume 20-25 Kcal per 1 kilogram of body weight. RUDN medics demonstrated that this value should be reduced by 15-20% to decrease the mortality and disablement rate among such patients by 2 times. The article was published in the Clinical Nutrition journal.
RUDN biochemists found out that apoptosis (programmed cell death) can be regulated using the EndoG enzyme. The discovery will lead to better understanding of cell and tissue protection mechanisms. The results of the study were published in the Biochimie journal.
A team of agrochemists from Russia, Germany, and Chile confirmed the so-called ferrous wheel hypothesis - the turnover of iron in the soil that enriches it with organic nitrogen. The results of the study were published in the Geochimica at Cosmochimica Acta journal.
“From chemical topology to molecular machines” - 2016 Nobel Prize in Chemistry. Professor Dr. Jean-Pierre Sauvage made a speech on April 22, at RUDN University at the conference “Advances in Synthesis and Complexing”, which brought together leading scientists from 15 countries.
RUDN University won the first place at the 47th International Exhibition of Inventions INVENTIONS GENEVA in Geneva (Switzerland), presenting a neurosurgical stereo-endoscope - a device for endoscopic minimally invasive operations. The invention of Russian scientists also won the Special Prize of the International Strategic Technology Alliance ISTA.
