Rector of RUDN opens the All-Russian Congress of International Students in Kursk.

13 - 15 September, the VII All-Russian Congress of International Students will be held in Kursk. The meeting is held annually to cope with problems that international students face. About 500 students, representatives of higher education institutions, high-ranking officials of the RF Ministry of Education and Science, the RF Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Rossotrudnichestvo and 15 diplomatic delegations will attend this congress.

In the Russian Federation there are about 300,000 international students. They enter universities either by quotas of the Government of the Russian Federation (each year 15,000 seats are allocated), or under the programs of their states, international funds, commercial organizations. From the first days, many of them face difficulties - cold climate, different way of life and culture, complicated language ... A system of adaptation has been developed in leading Russian universities, and many problems can be solved within 1-2 weeks after the student arrives in Russia. However, there are questions that cannot be answered at the university level - systematic approach is needed.

In 1996, RUDN alumni founded the Association of International Students (AIS) to solve the accumulated problems in the field of teaching foreign students and to protect their interests. Now AIS is an All-Russian network that unites universities in 34 cities of Russia. Over the years the Association has made progress in solving numerous problems. for example now foreign students have the right to work in Russia, the Association has resolved the issue of compulsory departure home when entering the master and postgraduate program , increasing the number of benefits etc. .

Nevertheless a number of problems is under decision-making. In particular, students have to leave Russia after a year of compulsory program at the preparatory faculty (they study Russian and general subjects there). The questions of educational internship, migration registration, short-term of study visas, cases of administrative expulsion and impossibility to work during the education process are still open. 

      To address these and related questions, about 500 delegates of AIS from all over Russia, university rectors, representatives of 15 diplomatic missions as well as Igor Ganshin, Director of International department of the Ministry of Education and Science, Artem Kureev,Head of international projects of the Russian student centre “Rossotrudnichestvo” at the Ministry of Education and Science, Vera Skorobogatova, Director of Glav-expert-centre and other high-level representatives of Russian legislative and executive authorities will meet at one platform.  The congress will be opened by the Governor of Kursk Region A.Mikhaylov , Chairperson of the Board of Trustees, Rector of RUDN V.Filippov and Rector of South-West State University S.Emelyanov . The plenary meeting will begin at 10:00, 14 September, at South-West State University (Kursk).

Decisions resulting from VII All-Russian Congress of International Students will be forwarded to the President of the Russian Federation, the Government and other agencies which are responsible for foreign students’ stay on the national territory.
