Topic: The spectrum and resolvent set.

Abstract: We formulate and prove some basic properties of the spectrum and the resolvent set. We consider natural examples of operators whose spectrum coincides with the entire complex plane or is empty.

Annotation. We state and prove some elementary properties of the spectrum and resolvent set. We shall see natural examples for operator A which satisfy that σ(A)=ℝ or σ(A)= Ǿ.
